Our Mission

To build a thriving, inclusive community that empowers Iranians in Iceland through cultural preservation, mutual support, and meaningful connections. We bridge the ancient heritage of Persia with the innovative spirit of the North, creating a space where both cultures enrich each other.

History

2022

The First Spark

A Facebook group called 'Iranians living in Iceland' was created, bringing together the scattered Iranian community for the first time. The search for a Persian language teacher and translator began.

2023

Building Resources

A Persian language teacher was found and official learning resources — including books and educational materials — were obtained. There were no regular meetings yet, but the groundwork was quietly being laid.

2024

Staying Connected

Members remained loosely connected without any formal structure or organised activities. The idea of a proper association continued to take shape in conversations.

2025

A Decision Is Made

After years of informal gatherings and community building, a collective decision was made to officially establish a formal Iranian-Icelandic community association.

2026

The Association Is Founded

Prior to 2026, several attempts had been made to establish and formalise the association, but none had reached a final outcome. On 5 January 2026, Mr. Alireza Fartomi formally proposed the idea of founding the association. On 28 January 2026, he drafted an independent statute — free from any ideological or political bias — laying the legal and structural foundations of the association and establishing his role as its founder. He then led the formalisation process from start to finish: organising members, gathering the necessary signatures, handling administrative follow-ups, and liaising with the Icelandic Registry Office. This milestone marks a turning point in the legal and structural establishment of the Iranian community in Iceland.

Official Registration Certificate Issued

On 7 May 2026, the Icelandic Company Registry (Skatturinn) officially issued the registration certificate for íranska Samfélagið á Íslandi (kennitala: 470526-1060), confirming its legal status as a registered non-profit association. This date marks the completion of the registration process and the formal recognition of the Iranian community in Iceland as a legally established organisation.
