Iceland Student Loan Fund
The Iceland Student Loan Fund (www.lin.is) provides loans to all students regardless of financial situation or academic history, based on academic progress. This is the primary financial support mechanism for students in Iceland, available to both Icelandic and foreign students at accredited institutions.
Grants and Union Support
Many trade unions offer educational grants to members and their children — contact your union to ask. Some municipalities provide continuing education grants. The Directorate of Labour (www.vmst.is) may cover costs of Icelandic language courses and vocational training for job seekers and those with international protection status.
Erasmus+ and International Programs
Iceland participates in Erasmus+, enabling students to study or do internships abroad: www.erasmusplus.is. Some Icelandic universities have exchange agreements with universities worldwide. Check university websites and www.island.is for current government scholarship offerings.
