Neighborhoods in Reykjavík

A community-curated guide by Iranian-Icelandic Community

City Center and East Reykjavík

Postal code 101 is the city center (miðborg), home to parliament, the main shopping street Laugavegur, museums, and restaurants. Codes 105 and 107 are eastern residential areas with good schools and green spaces. Code 108 (Breiðholt) is a large diverse neighborhood with affordable housing and good bus connections.

West Reykjavík and Greater Capital Area

Codes 109 and 110 offer family-friendly environments with parks and schools. The greater capital area includes Kópavogur, Hafnarfjörður, Garðabær, and Mosfellsbær — all within 20 minutes of the city center with good services and slightly lower rents than central Reykjavík.

Getting Around
