Læknavaktin provides after-hours general medical care for the Reykjavík area, on Háaleitisbraut. Open Monday–Friday 17:00–23:30 and weekends/holidays 09:00–23:30. No appointment needed — walk in and take a number. A 24-hour nurse advice line is available nationwide: call 1770.
Emergency Ward at Landsspítalinn
For serious injuries or acute illness, the emergency ward at Landsspítali University Hospital in Fossvogur is open 24 hours: phone 543-2000. This covers severe trauma, head injuries, fractures, and burns. Confidential emergency care for sexual assault victims is also available here free of charge.
Ambulance and Emergency Number
The national emergency number is 112 — covering ambulance, fire, and police. Ambulance transport costs are fixed regardless of distance. For less urgent issues, call the nurse line at 1770 first for advice on the most appropriate care setting.
