Job Search in Iceland
A community-curated guide by Iranian-Icelandic Community
Where to Find Jobs
Main job portals: alfis.is, mbl.is/atvinna, vakinn.is, and LinkedIn. The Directorate of Labour (www.vmst.is) has a job registry and can assist with placement. Many companies post on their own websites. Networking through community events is very effective in Iceland's small job market.
Application Process
Applications are typically submitted online with a CV, cover letter, and copies of relevant certificates. Your CV should include: name, photo, kennitala, contact details, education, work experience, language skills, and references. Direct contact — email, phone, or in-person — is also common and appreciated.
Credential Recognition
Foreign academic credentials can be assessed through ENIC/NARIC (www.enicnaric.is). Vocational training is assessed at IÐAN (www.idan.is). Professional licenses require ministry authorization. Learning Icelandic significantly improves employment prospects. Free career counseling is available at lifelong learning centers.
