Finding Courses
Icelandic language courses are offered at lifelong learning centers (símenntunarmiðstöðvar) throughout Iceland, at language schools, and through charitable organizations. Icelandic Lutheran Mission (SÍK) offers free beginner courses: www.sik.is. Reimbursement for course fees may be available through your union, the Directorate of Labour, or municipal social services.

Mímir (mimir.is) One of Iceland's largest educational centers offering a wide range of Icelandic language courses. Mímir also issues vocational diplomas for the Icelandic job market and is one of the main recognized venues for the citizenship language exam. Multikulti (multikulti.is) A school focused on immigrants' needs, teaching Icelandic in a friendly and practical environment. An excellent choice for those who want to connect with other cultures while learning the language. The Tin Can Factory (thetincanfactory.eu) If you are looking for a creative and different approach to language learning, this is a great option. They combine language learning with cultural, interactive, and group activities to make the experience more enjoyable for learners. Baratala (baratala.is) A specialized school offering structured and regular courses for different levels of Icelandic. The focus is on developing speaking and listening skills so that learners can integrate into society as quickly as possible.
Digital Tools and Online Resources
Word Learner — Orðaforðinn (ord.ruv.is) An outstanding interactive tool from Iceland's national broadcaster RÚV. This platform uses videos, news clips, and real Icelandic media content to help you build your vocabulary in an authentic, everyday context. Excellent for listening practice and learning practical vocabulary. Icelandic Online (icelandiconline.com) Structured online courses for different levels of Icelandic. Tips for Learning
Use Icelandic at every opportunity — shops, bus, neighbors. Build confidence by joining community groups, sports clubs, or religious organizations. The Red Cross immigrant services and parent groups also provide language practice opportunities. Children's Icelandic develops quickly through school and friendships.
