National Emergency Number

The national emergency number in Iceland is 112 — for ambulance, fire department, and police. Ambulance transport costs are fixed regardless of distance. Text messaging to 112 is available for people who cannot speak. After-hours non-emergency medical care: Læknavaktin on Háaleitisbraut — open weekdays 17:00–23:30, weekends 09:00–23:30.

Emergency Ward

The emergency ward (slysadeild) at Landsspítali University Hospital in Fossvogur is open 24 hours, phone 543-2000. Go there for: severe trauma, head injuries, fractures, burns, chest pain, or breathing difficulties. Free confidential emergency care for sexual assault victims is available at the same location.
