Self-Employment
A contractor is a person who undertakes work for payment and guarantees results. Contractors issue invoices and are responsible for paying their own taxes, VAT, and wage-related expenses. You must register with the Directorate of Internal Revenue before starting: www.rsk.is/atvinnurekstur/ad-hefja-rekstur. Regular tax courses for new entrepreneurs are available.
Job Seeking
Jobs are advertised in newspapers, online portals, company websites, and employment agencies. Applications are typically online with a CV, cover letter, and certificates. Direct contact (email, phone, in-person) is also effective. Key portals: alfis.is and mbl.is/atvinna.
CV Requirements
An Icelandic CV typically includes: personal information (name, kennitala, email, phone, photo), education, work experience, language skills, and references. Foreign credentials may need assessment: ENIC/NARIC (www.enicnaric.is) for academic qualifications, IÐAN (www.idan.is) for vocational training.
